Open the RAR to ZIP converter, add a supported RAR4 or RAR5 file, choose the ZIP compression profile, convert, and download the new ZIP. The source archive remains unchanged.
Why convert RAR to ZIP?
ZIP is often easier to open on phones, desktops, browser-based workflows, and systems where installing an extra archive utility is inconvenient. Converting is useful when the destination understands ZIP but not RAR.
The operation is repackaging, not file-format conversion of the documents inside the archive. The converter decodes regular files and folders from RAR and writes them into a new ZIP container.
How to convert RAR to ZIP
- Open the RAR to ZIP tool. Use ConvertAnyFile's RAR to ZIP converter.
- Add the RAR file. The browser validates the container before conversion.
- Choose ZIP compression. Store is fastest; Balanced is the normal default; Maximum spends more CPU attempting a smaller output.
- Convert locally. RAR decoding runs in a lazy-loaded WebAssembly worker only when RAR input is used.
- Download and verify. Open the resulting ZIP with the destination software before replacing an important source archive.
Compatibility and limits
Password-protected or encrypted RAR archives are not supported. Archives containing unsafe paths, links, unsupported special entries, corruption, or content that exceeds browser safety limits are rejected instead of producing a partial ZIP.
Archive formats do not expose identical metadata. Regular file payloads and safe directory structure are the main compatibility target. Ownership IDs, ACLs, extended attributes, symbolic links, hard links, and vendor-specific metadata are not promised to survive repackaging.
Privacy and archive safety
Supported RAR bytes are decoded and repackaged in the browser rather than uploaded to a server conversion queue. The decoder is lazy-loaded only for 7Z/RAR workflows. The Archive engine also applies entry-count, expanded-size, path-safety, and duplicate-path checks before output is accepted.
For backups, deployment artifacts, or archives whose metadata matters, keep the original RAR and verify the ZIP with the destination tool.
